Pre-selection of undergraduate students to directly enroll in PhD Degree ( Deadline: 09/23/2014 )

The Collaborative Innovation Center of Chemistry for Energy Materials, was established jointly by Xiamen University (XMU), Fudan University (FDU), the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), and Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). iChEM takes advantage of the strengths in “chemistry and materials sciences” of the four member institutions in the further advancement of cutting-edge energy-related research and meanwhile training younger generation for research excellence, whereby strengthening research community and industry collaboration. Also, iChEM has been successfully approved by MOE in the national competition of “2011 program”.


To enroll in this program, iChEM will select excellent students who major in Chemistry, Chemical engineering, Material, Physics and other energy related subjects. The student will receive multi-supervisor training among the three universities (XMU, FDU, USTC) and institution (DICP). The student will get engaged in at least three research groups in the first year. After the first year, the first supervisor for the student will be decided through two-way selection criteria where the person must be a professor in iChEM .Other supervisors will be decided by the first supervisor and the student according to the collaborative terms of iChEM (person can be outside of iChEM).


Most of students will receive the support from iChEM to carry out their research work about one or two years abroad during the PhD course. iChEM will give the generous scholarship to every student, detailed as follows. The first year scholarships are categorized into A (100,000 ¥/year), B (80,000 ¥/year) and C (60,000 ¥/year) levels (Students who apply A or B level scholarship need to pass the interview conducted by experts of iChEM). In the next 3 or 4 years, the scholarship will be provided according to the result of annual assessment. Students performing extremely well will receive scholarship more than 100,000 RMB per year while the disqualified students will be warned or fired from the center.


The preselecting process consists of the following criteria.


1. Basic requirements

Fresh undergraduates from domestically well-known universities whose overall academic scores comes in top 20% in first three years of the course (the standard can be relaxed if the student have outstanding research ability), CET4 score more than 550 or CET6 score more than 450.


2. Application materials

1).iChEM Preselection Form for Undergraduates to directly enroll in PhD degree.

2).Undergraduate Transcript with official seal of University Office of academic affairs.

3).CET4 or CET6 certificate, certificate of award or achievement of research (such as scientific research thesis).

4).Other materials supporting the application.


All the materials must be in PDF form and email them to the first volunteer university or institution. The subject of email should be of the form "(full name of your university)-(your name)-material of iChEM preselection in undergraduate to directly study for PhD degree. (Please don't send email to several universities or institution, if you fail to be accepted in your first volunteer university, the material will be send to the second volunteer).
