Academic and Professional background Prof. Dr. Haojun Liang received his B.S. degree in physics from Northeast Normal University in 1984, and his Ph.D. degrees from Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry (Chinese Academy of Sciences) in 1990. He is a visiting scholar in chemistry at Chinese university of Hong Kong in 1999, and in materials at University of Loughborough in 2000. Dr. Liang is currently a professor in the school of chemistry and materials science at USTC since 2002. During his scientific career, prof. Liang has published >170 peer-reviewed articles in J. Am. Chem. Soc., Adv. Mater., ACS NANO, Nucleic Acids Res., Chem. Soc. Rev., Macromolecules, Chem. Commun., Biosensors & Bioelectronics, Soft Matter, etc. He was the winner of The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2005. He also sits on the Editor of The Open Chemical Physics Journal, International Journal of Polymer Science, and Acta Polymerica Sinica. Liang’s group conducts research at generating DNA artificial biochemical circuits via enzyme and enzyme-free methods, integrating them with the self-assembly of spherical nucleic acid (SNA) conjugates, and exploring their potential applications in biosensor and biodiagnosis. Our group uses various theoretical methods ranging from ab initio (DFT) simulations to mesoscopic simulations to investigate the self-assembly of SNAs driven with DNA-based nanomachines, and to evaluate the stability and conformational transformation of G-quadraplexes. Currently, he is more committed to regulating the transcription and translation of gene in the aspect of synthetic biology.
