On August 31, 2013, iChEM Director, Prof. Zhong-Qun Tian, General Secretary, Prof. Yun-Bao Jiang, and the Directors of five Offices of Information and Resources, Human Resources, Technology Transfer, Administration, and Technical Support visited Xiang-an campus of XMU for an on-site meeting in order to establish a sub-platform of iChEM for research division of optimal utilization of carbon resources, supported by the National Engineering Laboratory for Green Chemical Productions of Alcohols-Ethers-Esters (NELAEE). They also visited research division of chemical energy and conversion that had already been established and developed at the Xiang-an campus of XMU. Director of NELAEE, Prof. Youzhu Yuan briefly introduced initial setup plan and short-term strategies for the sub-platform before the discussions of future construction and development of the sub-platform.
Prof. Tian first confirmed Xiang-an campus is a good base for construction of energy related research platform in long-term development of the Center and then suggested to continue working on the sub-platform and put it in good use in order to provide the scientists a comfortable and convenient research environment meeting with international criterion. Prof. Jiang also pointed out that the College will fully support the construction of sub-platform and recommended to differentiate partition of the NELAEE building by functions in different colors in order to unify management and allocation of available resources conveniently.
Xiang-an campus (Xiang-shan campus) covers an area of 3,645 acres while the main campus of XMU covers about 2,500 acres. The travel distance between the two campuses is very close with only about 40 min drive. It is planned there to construct new buildings with a total area of about 1.15 million m2 and a total investment of about ￥3.6 billion. Now available lab spaces of about 1,500 m2 in the building of NELAEE are dedicated to the Center for construction of sub-platforms.
