1st Annual Meeting of “Tunable InfraRed Laser” (FELiChEM) Project

The 1st Annual Meeting of “Tunable InfraRed Laser for Fundamentals of Energy Chemistry” (FELiChEM) under the main program “National Major Plan in Research and Development of Scientific Instrument and Equipment”held in USTC, Hefei



On March 21-22, 2015, iChEM Prof. Shi-Gang Sun organized the 1st Annual Meeting of “Tunable InfraRed Laser for Fundamentals of Energy Chemistry” Project in the field of energy chemistry, held in National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (NSRL) in USTC, Hefei.



At the start of the meeting, Prof. Shi-Gang Sun thanked NSFC which is largely responsible for sourcing of this project. The meeting focused on summarizing the progress of the project, determining the key parameters, technical limitations and construction plan of the experimental station. Also, it included the discussion on the light source design implementation.


During the meeting, Lin Wang, Manager of InfraRed Free-Electron Laser (IRFEL)from engineering headquarters department, presented the progress report of the project, which had an introduction about the organization of the engineering department. He also submitted a tentative schedule for the future progress of the project. He explained about the determination of engineering department overcoming all difficulties, making IRFEL light into an international-class scientific facility.


As a team report, Shan-cai Zhang, Chen Gao, and Jie Shao responsible for light source, beam line and construction respectively reported the progress of their sections individually. Other participants had intensive discussions over the co-operation between the experimental stations and the light source department, the parameter requirements and other issues.


As key factors of the meeting, Wen-bin Cai from FDU, Zhao-Hui Wang and Ming-Shu Chen from XMU, Ling Jiang from DICP, and Anxing Wang from USTC made a report about the progress of their corresponding experimental stations respectively, also they mentioned about the technical requirements of the infrared light source docking procedure. Chief Technologist Xiao Yi proposed a standardization process for the project and Gongfa Liu, responsible for light control system introduced the synchronization system.


In addition, Deputy Director Wen-ping Liang encouraged everyone to face the difficulties endured in the process of the project development, thinking solutions positively. He also mentioned NSFC, as the competent authority, will support and assist the successful completion of the project.


On conclusion of the meeting, Prof. Shi-Gang Sung expressed appreciation on achieving the desired meeting goals. Also, he mainly emphasized that the project must take its advantages of the collaboration (iChEM) to ensure a successful completion of the equipment development and in solving the key problems in energy chemistry.
