On March 21, 2015, iChEM’s 1st meeting was held simultaneously in XMU (Xiamen), FDU (Shanghai), USTC (Hefei) and DICP (Dalian) through multi-video conferencing. Approximately 170 people including the Directors of the center, secretary-general, researchers, technical and service support personnel, iChEM researcher, iChEM fellow, iChEM postdoctoral and graduate students attended the meeting from 4 different locations. Director Can Li from Dalian Institute was the chair of the meeting, Director Zhong-qun Tian from Xiamen University presented the director’s report on behalf of the collaborative committee and Director Dong-yuan Zhao from Fudan University gave concluding remarks.
In the director's report, Prof. Tian first mentioned about the great success of iChEM in passing overall evaluation and certification in 2011-CICs, for which he expressed his sincere gratitude to the relevant leaders of the council, academic committee, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance and to every member of the center. Prof. Zhong-qun Tian made a pointed remark that the center has already built the characteristics of cohering strength, endeavoring, focusing on the mission and acquiring actual effectiveness. He then focused on the organizational structure, iChEM synergistic mechanism, iChEM platform model, and demonstrated an example of successfully applied major research project organized by the center and multi-unit coordination. He introduced the iChEM scholars system with the theme of "Promoting research staff mobility" and work with a model of “flow but not mobilize" and invited Nobel laureate to be a part of the system. He summarized the effectiveness acquired in the innovation process with trinity of "research, discipline and talent" in the past year.
As next part of the speech, he highlighted the 2015 annual work plan in five aspects: organizational structure, scheduled projects, funds usage, performance evaluation and conference arrangements. He clarified the platform as execution units to organize and implement specific research tasks, and grading assessment appointment. He emphasized much on coordination and development.
In the following questionnaire session, the directors clarified the member’s questions in detail. The head of each collaborative unit stressed about the importance of center recognition and implementing the ideologies discussed in the meeting. In order to make a positive contribution in solving major scientific problems in the field of energy materials chemistry, we need to optimize our efforts and converge resources for center construction. Liang Wen-ping, the Deputy Vice-Director of the Department of Chemistry National Natural Science Foundation of China, accepted the constructive efficiency of the center in innovation mechanism. He looked forward the center’s efficiency in leading the world with China's chemistry.
