On Aug 6th -7th, the 51th cutting edge of science and technology forum in the theme of Synthesis, properties and applications of graphene and graphdiyne was successfully held in XMU. The forum was sponsored by Department of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences and hosted by Collaborative Innovation Center of Chemistry for Energy Material (iChEM) and Science China press. CAS members Prof. Zhong-Qun Tian and Prof. Zhong-Fan Liu were executive chairmen of this forum and Prof. Nan-Feng Zheng of XMU has been the secretary of this forum.
This forum lasted for two days, it was divided into four topics as prospects, massive production, application and industrialization. The speakers were renowned scientist from in and abroad, which included the 2010 Nobel Laureate, Konstantin Novoselov. Over 40 experts in the area of graphene and graphdiyne attended the meeting. More than 80 members from different schools and institutes participated the forum.
Prof. Zhong-Qun Tian delivered his welcome speech and briefed the preparation and purpose of this forum in the opening section. The four sections of this forum were hosted by CAS member Zhong-Fan Liu from Perking University, researcher Yu-Liang Li from Institute of Chemistry, CSA, Prof. Li-Ming Dai from Case Western Reserve University and Prof. Nan-Feng Zheng from Xiamen University, respectively.
Nobel Laureate, Konstantin Novoselov made an impressive opening report Materials beyond graphene. Other 11 speakers also delivered their reports with deep concerning and profound understanding about the graphene and graphdiyne material. Participants discussed a lot concerning the further application about this unique material. The overall discussion time was over 400 minutes, which even exceeded the reporting time, indicating the full participation and good response from all the members and the audience respectively.
Prof. Zhong-Fan Liu concluded the forum by placing some requirements for the future developments: 1. Graphene and graphdiyne researches are in need of more attention and investment; 2. Basic researches about two dimensional materials like graphene and graphdiyne should be strengthened; 3. Fully participate to the industrialization of graphene and graphdiyne and get prepared for a new era of two dimension materials.
