In the afternoon of April 22, 2016, Prof. Jianguo Hou, deputy minister of Ministry of Science and Technology visited Xiamen University for investigation and survey, mainly focusing on the scientific research progress of Graphene Industry and Engineering Research Institute, iChEM center(Collaborative Innovation Center of Chemistry of Energy Materials), State Key Laboratory of Physical Chemistry at Solid Surfaces. Prof. Yan Zhang, the party secretary of Xiamen University, attended this meeting.
Vice president of Xiamen University, Prof. Jiazhun Han reported on behalf of the university to deputy minister Mr.Hou, on the scientific research highlights and characteristics of 12th Five-year Plan, and gave a brief introduction of general planning and striving direction of Xiamen University for 13th Five-year Plan.
Prof. Zhong-Qun Tian, MCAS (Member of Chinese Academy of Science) and director of iChEM center and Prof. Ye Wang director of State Key Laboratory of Physical Chemistry at Solid Surfaces reported on the research characteristics of Graphene Industry and Engineering Research Institute, iChEM center, and State Key Laboratory of Physical Chemistry at Solid Surfaces respectively, and made notes on relevant issues which needs support and assistance of MOST.
Deputy-minister Mr.Hou represented for Xiamen University’s progress and achievements in fundamental research fully affirmed. He said that Xiamen University stuck closely on the country’s requirements, aimed to scientific frontier, actively collaborated positives from all sides to participate in the scientific research. By complementing each other’s advantages and with clear division of labor and obvious collaboration effect, finally XMU has made great achievements in scientific research.
Deputy minister Mr.Hou pointed out that during the period of 13th Five-year Plan, China will further deepen the structural reform of science and technology, achieve new breakthroughs in crucial areas and key links to reform, basically establish the national innovation system with Chinese characteristics, and enter into the ranks of innovated countries. Universities is the main battlefield for scientific and technological innovation, so it is hoped XMU will insist on the mind of innovation development, focus on implementing deeply the innovation-driven development strategy, take scientific and technological reform as the drive, promote overall innovation with scientific and technological reform at the core. It is also hoped that XMU will cultivate more leading talents and innovation teams to launch more original achievements, push industrial upgrading and promote the contribution of scientific and technological innovation to economy society development.
The party secretary Zhang has expressed thanks to the deputy minister Mr.Hou. He mentioned XMU will stride efforts to build a leading national team of original scientific research innovation, which will contribute to promoting scientific and technological innovation and industrial upgrade of our country.
Responsible persons of relevant departments of MOST, provincial science office, and municipal science bureau attended the activities, Prof. Shigang Sun, Member of Chinese Academy of Science and assistant principal Prof. Bogang Teng also participated in the activities.
