Most recently, the iChEM researcher, Prof. Tao Zhang of DICP was invited by the Nature Energy, a new member of Nature family for a special column “Water Splitting: Taking cobalt in isolation”.

The provision of energy is a key issue at the heart of modern society: where do we get it from, how do we use it, and is there enough of it for what we want? Our growing thirst for energy must be matched by its supply, and that supply must be sustained. Tackling these challenges is an essential part of many fields of research-both in the natural and social and behavioural sciences – and is the focus of multi-billion-dollar global industries. Nature Energy is dedicated to exploring all aspects of this on-going discussion, from the generation and storage of energy, to its distribution and management, the needs and demands of the different actors, and the impacts that energy technologies and policies have on societies. In addition to original research in the natural sciences and the social and behavioural sciences, Nature Energy also publishes Review Articles, Perspectives, Comment and Opinion, Analysis, News and Views and Research Highlights, covering the many issues of interest to the diverse energy community.

On the basis of his outstanding original work at single atomic dispersive metal catalysis, Prof. Tao Zhang was invited to present a special column for an article he recently published on Nature Communications “Atomic cobalt on nitrogen-doped graphene for hydrogen generation”. In this article, Prof. Zhang not only briefly introduced and commented on the article, but analyzed and expected the research development and the challenge that making use of single atom catalyst into HER, ORR, etc.
